Severs Disease

Severs disease, also called calcaneal apophysitis, is a condition causing swelling and pain at the back of the heel that affects growing adolescents. The inflammation occurs at the point where the Achilles tendon attaches to the calcaneus bone, the large bone that makes up the heel of the foot. Severs disease is a common cause of heel pain in physically active children in the early part of puberty, usually between ages 9-14.
